Description

Every year our contact centre is bombarded with calls around Christmas and New Year by residents wanting to find out when their bin collection is going to be. We've produce leaflets, put calendars on bins and post details on social media, but nothing seems to stop people from calling.

This year, after our first foray into Gov Notify, we decided that maybe sending people text alerts about bin collection changes might help reduce the number of calls.

We set up a simple sign up form, which collects the residents' name, address and mobile number. The address data is matched against their bin collection information, allowing us to see their collection day and also what bin round they are on.

At the time of writing, we have over 1200 residents signed up for alerts. Not only can we text them to let them know their amended collection date over the festive period, but if there is an issue with their round, we can let them know in advance. This means that we have the potential to reduce calls all year round.
